Did you know that 2023 is the Year of the Trail throughout all of North Carolina? All 100 counties in the Great Trails State will be showcasing special programs throughout this year to commemorate the Year of the Trail and invite visitors and residents to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.
In Moore County, the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has several programs to share, and one of them is the Pinecone Pathways Program. The CVB has partnered with glassmakers from Starworks in Star, NC to create a specially-made mold to produce a limited run of 100 (now 200) glass pinecones. These colorful pinecones – which look exactly like the ones pictured on this page – will be hidden along trails throughout Moore County starting in March.
Anyone can be a seeker!
Hit the trails in Moore County (View the list here) between March 20, 2023, and May 31, 2023 in search of one of 100 (now 200) hidden glass-blown pinecones. These glass-blown pinecones are exclusive to this program and cannot be purchased. Finders Keepers!
Area retailers will sporadically receive clues to hidden pinecone locations, so it is best to keep checking in on this site, or various social media outlets in Moore County throughout the program for updates and clues.

Starworks a local non-profit and arts-centered work community that promotes community and economic development by providing outstanding artistic educational programs and business ventures. They strive to engage the community with artwork and artists of the highest caliber. Starworks is a project of Central Park NC.
Each handblown pinecone is unique. These pinecones are only made by Starworks for this program.
